Knock it off 不是敲掉它！
As we know, the word “knock” means to hit something. So what’s the meaning of “knock it off”? Does it mean “smack something down”? Of course not. When we say “knock it off”, we are actually telling someone to stop doing something that is annoying. It can be used in different contexts.
我们都知道，“knock”有敲打的意思。那么“knock it off”呢？是把东西敲下来的意思吗？当然不是。当我们说“knock it off”的时候，是想让别人停止做烦人的事。在不同的语境中我们都可以用上它。
For example, if you want someone to be quiet, you can say:
例如，当你想让别人安静下来的时候，你可以说：
Knock it off! You are making so much noise that I cannot concentrate.
别说话了！你吵得我都没办法集中注意力了。
Knock it off! I’m trying to sleep.
别吵了！我要睡觉了。
When you want everyone to stop arguing, you can say:
当你想让大家停止争吵的时候，你可以说：
Guys, knock it off. He’s one of the best doctors in our country.
大伙们都别吵了，他已经是我们国家医生之一了。
You can also use this phrase when you want to show that you don’t buy it.
你也可以用它来表达你不吃这一套。
I wish I could tell my boss to knock it off.
我希望我能告诉我老板少来这一套了。
By the way, this expression may be a little bit stiff or even impolite. It’s better to use it when you are really getting angry.
